Become an Effective and Confident Speaker The reaction of most people who are not used to standing up and talking to an audience.... whatever the size: "I get terrified", "I just get tongue tied", "I go to pieces", "People see me shake with fear". How do you face a presentation? This one day workshop will help you to move from having those fears to feeling 'Hey, I can do this after just a few hours'. The workshop is designed for you to practise in a safe environment with others who feel like you do. You will use some of your time to present or listen to and assess others by using a presentation matrix. You will be convincing when you present your ideas or proposals. Topics we cover - Your natural style. We explore three workshop/presentation styles and you discover your natural style (practical exercise).
- Understanding the group. We consider your belief about yourself/group/and subject that you like to change (practical exercise).
- Understanding why we make the presentation - subject and outcomes.
- Controlling your nerves. We look at ways to have confidence in yourself.
- Knowing and focusing on our audience. We explore the participant profile. You learn about the importance of whole brain learning and how your own learning style influences your presentation design and natural facilitation style.
- Setting the scene for the day. We look at room, equipment planning and the use of music.
- Preparing your talk. We look at the structure, theme and flow of your presentation (practical exercise).
- The secrets of a powerful and effective presentation. We look at step by step activities, tools and approaches for your presentation starting with the introduction and ending with a finish.
- We explore the benefits of “warm up activities” versus “setting ground rules”.
- You learn how to control group dynamics and even eliminate it with good design. You discover how to deal with difficult or aggressive challenges. We learn how to build rapport with your audience.
- Creating a great experience for your audience. You receive practical tips on how to keep your audience interested throughout and the benefits of follow up activities. You learn how to have a conversation with your audience.
- Watching the clock.
- Participants are required to consider a presentation topic before the workshop to be used for practical purposes. Where possible participants can use their laptops for presentation design and note taking purposes.
We explore the essentials for creating good business relationships and what is needed to deliver, persuade and convince clients of proposals they may not want to hear (delivering difficult messages). You focus on your communication style. We do a few exercises to show you how to tease out the information you need and to establish a common bond. We look at the effective use of questioning.
